Dr. Anirban Dhar is an esteemed educator, visual artist, researcher, and author with over 12 years of academic and research experience. He is currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fine Arts at Graphic Era Hill University, Dehradun Campus, Uttarakhand, India. Dr. Dhar holds a PhD in Visual Arts from Assam University, Silchar, a Master of Visual Arts (MVA) with a Gold Medal, and a Bachelor of Visual Arts (BVA), both specializing in Painting, from the Department of Visual Arts, Assam University.
His research areas include New Media Art, Multidisciplinary/Multimedia Art, Contemporary Art Practices, Cinema Studies, Art & Cultural Studies, Indigenous and Traditional Art of India, Performing Art Practices of India, and Modern and Postmodern Art. Dr. Dhar has been actively contributing to the field of visual arts, both academically and practically, through participation in numerous national and international conferences, workshops, seminars, exhibitions, art festivals, and art fairs.
In 2025, he authored a book titled “Image Beyond Image: New Media Art of Contemporary India”, published by BlueRose Publishers Pvt. Ltd. The book was launched at the World Book Fair 2025, Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, India, and was also featured at the London Book Fair 2025. Dr. Dhar’s work bridges the gap between academic theories and practical applications, making significant contributions to the development of contemporary art practices in India.
He has received several accolades, including the Endowment Award, Merit Prize, and numerous honors for his academic excellence and artistic endeavors. Dr. Dhar has also guided several PhD scholars in the field of Visual Arts, shaping the next generation of artists and researchers.
